The Colours of Our Moss...

Jamaican sea moss changes colour throughout the year because of natural environmental factors. The amount of sunlight, water temperature, and nutrients in the ocean all affect its colour. For example, in sunnier months, sea moss may appear lighter, like golden or green, while in cooler months with less sunlight, it can turn darker, like purple or brown.

Golden or Purple Moss?

Both purple and golden sea moss are rich in essential nutrients and offer health benefits, but purple sea moss tends to be higher in antioxidants, while golden sea moss has a greater concentration of minerals like iodine. The choice between them may depend on your specific health goals or preference for taste and texture.

Why the Colour Varies

When you process sea moss into a gel, its colour reflects the pigments present in the raw sea moss at the time of harvest. So, if the raw sea moss was harvested during a sunny season, the gel may be lighter, and if it came from a cooler season, it may be darker. These natural changes show that our sea moss is pure, natural, and straight from the ocean.

Oxidation: Once blended into gel form, exposure to air can slightly alter its colour over time as natural oxidation occurs.
